The Dispute

On January 30, 2024 I received notification from the American Express Company that I had failed to make payment on my American Express Gold Card in a timely fashion.

Thank you for your reminder. Certainly my mistake since I overlooked to make this payment in a timely fashion.

The payment was due on 1/28/24. Your reminder is dated 2 days after the due date of the payment. This E-Mail could have been sent 2 days prior the due date, but I guess you wanted your pound of flesh from me.

When this card expires, please do not renew.

Thank you

Nothing could be misunderstood in my response.

Note:  I requested that Amex does not renew my Amex Gold Card On January 30th, 2024

I initially went on “CHAT” with Amex.  I referred to my E-Mail response and was informed that the E-Mail sent by Amex came from an address that does not accept replies from their customers and that the return D-Mail address was “noreply@welcome.americanexpress.com.

This was a lie as the E-Mail clearly shows the sender to be americanexpress@welcome.americanexpress.com.

During a subsequent “Chat” with Amex I was told I could cancel my account within 30 days.  Unfortunately, only Amex has a record of these “Chats’.  They offered all kinds of incentive, a credit of $ 40.00 for any interest charges or changing to a difference card.  I decline all offers and insisted that my account be closed.

The connection to the ‘Chat’ went off-line and I assumed at this stage that the matter had been resolved.
